Forget giving me a hand...I'll take a foot

HEADLINE:

Woman faces charges for stealing a foot.

(I'm not making this up people)

Cynthia Economou faces theft charges for taking part of Karl Lambert's foot, after he crashed on I-95 in Port Lucie last year. Investigation reveals she had taken the severed foot home & stored it in her freezer.

She claims that the Deputy Police Chief gave her permission to take the foot.

Cool they're handing out souvenirs at crash sites now?....if so I get dibs on his left eye ball!!!

One of the reasons that the case has been moving along so slowly is that the police weren't sure how to charge her. Since in theft cases they are required to assign a value to the stolen property.

Hmmm....the value of my foot? It obviously depreciates once it's ripped off my body...but it still has some intrinsic value I'm sure.

In the end Cynthia Economou was charged with misdemeanor theft when the foot was valued at $100.00.

C'mon a measly hundred bucks? He could have gotten WAY more than that for it on Ebay!

Mr. Lambert has been confined to a wheelchair since the accident.

And always remember the famous words of Stanislaw Lec......

"When you Jump for joy, beware that no one moves the ground beneath your feet."

Or steals one of em when you ain't lookin!!!!

That is so gross! She just took it as a souvenir? And left it in her freezer? What happens when a friend comes over and wants ice for her glass of water???

Cool!!!

I'd love to be friends with her!

Did they say why she wanted to have a strangers foot? Sounds fishy. Was she going to eat it? Gagging.

WEIRD!! Or should I say WEIRDO :o) Now I wonder if she didn't take the foot if he could of had surgery to put it back on. Ya, know like if you get your finger cut off they can put it back on if it's not too late. There have been others that lost an arm and they try to save it. I think she should of gotten more then she did.

Honestly, who came up with the $100.00 figure. I'm sure a prosthetic foot costs a lot more than that. ~ Robyn

LOL~ I loved this post! I for one am not grossed out by much~ long history of growing up w/3 older very GROSS boys and hanging around the fire department...lol. In the late 80's my parents ( grand ) had rental properties. When one of our tenants moved out we went in the house and OMG it was full of trash and had painted murals in the living room of whales. ( they didn't even look good, I so wish I had pictures ) Anyway~ my job was always to clean the houses and when I opened the freezer there where 3 VERY frozen birds in there. Like real birds, the ones I take pictures of eating in our backyard. It was WEIRD. Oh, & their where feathers on the walls and under the drip pans on the stove. FREAKY!

Have a great weekend!

Hugs~ J

Looks like we have a lot in common. Only your dogs are bigger than mine and your kids are younger. I'll be back when I have a minute. Mimi

Ok, I'm not gonna be very nice...but that woman looks like she needs a hell of a lot more than some man's dead, laying on the side of a street foot!!! I'd be slapping that bitch up and demanding she give my foot back; cold and all!! That's just wrong!

Only in Florida I tell you! I used to live close enough to there to know they are all crazy enough to do something like that. The woman was a firefighter with a 14 year career that is down the tubes now. Apparently, she wanted the foot for her hobby, yup that's right! She trained cadaver dogs.
I'd love to know if the foot was viable or not. $100 is insane. I won't be chopping my feet off if all I can get is a lousy $100. That's not enough to buy me a good designer shoe for the foot I have left.

roy/elisabeth dean said...

Bleeeeekkkkkkk! I can't even stand to touch anyone's foot when it's still ATTACHED to the leg!!! I would be the worst manicurist in the history of manicurists. I can barely stand to touch my OWN feet!
Maybe she thought she would freeze it in case they decided to re-attach it (so she could come forward and say she saved it), maybe she thought she could use it for an unusual doorstop, or just maybe she wanted to use it to kick somebody's bootie! WHo knows...what a sick-o. I'm just so grateful she wasn't from Alabama!

You know what's strange...I almost posted about something equally bizarre. A guy was just found dead in an abandoned building's elevator shaft in Detroit. The police aren't sure if he was pushed or if he accidentially fell. When he fell, however, he landed in a couple feet of water, which froze solid with the arctic temps we've had lately. So all that was sticking out of a giant block of ice were his legs. The Detroit News even published a photo of it.

Strangest thing I've heard all day. Makes me wonder what the rest of the story is....WHAT was she gonna do with a foot????

michelle huey said...

Ewww...how gross it that? She really got "nailed" on that one. Somebody must have "toed" on her. She must have just been head over "heel" when she saw that lying there. She must get a real "kick" out of this sort of thing. Makes no sense to me.
Only a 100 bucks? Someone should have put their "foot" down on that and asked for more.

Thanks for making me laugh! Please pardon all of the puns. :)

All was going well until I saw the pic of the foot. Now you think as a makeup artist that is used to blood and gore this would not affect me. Surprisingly it did, it was GROSS!!! The woman clearly has some kind of perverse foot fetish perhaps or that was her most favourite part of him. Yuk!!!!

As for it only being $100, gosh no way - surely.....there are some sick people in the world.

And before I go I just want to say I LOVED your love story. It is a made for TV movie, I am telling you. Seriously it made my eyes well with tears. Do you think if you gave me the name of that restaurant and I hung round there, love would strike me like that? I loved it and so glad you had a happy ending. I was skeptic about this story, so I looked it up on snopes.com, here's the full real story in the paper: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities said the St. Lucie County firefighter who took a man's severed foot from an Interstate 95 crash scene last year has been charged with misdemeanor theft. The firefighter told the Florida Highway Patrol after the Sept. 19 crash that she took the remains to help train her cadaver dog. She eventually resigned from the St. Lucie County Fire District. She was arrested Monday.

FHP Lt. Tim Frith said the severity of a theft charge is usually determined by the value of what is stolen. Since there's no law specifically dealing with the theft of a body part, he said it was difficult to determine the monetary value of the foot.

The firefighter was released from jail on her own recognizance Monday afternoon.
