HOORAY...bra-less days are here again!

I did a post awhile back....about the mess construction going on in my yard. Thanks of course to my dear hubby and his big ideas.

Everyone seemed to think there was something REALLY grand happening. So as not to disappoint you all....I decided we needed to expand the project. The last thing I want to do is have my bloggy friends think I'm a poseur. So today the project was completed. WHEW it's about dang time. I was getting sick and tired of wearing a bra every day so I was respectable when the guys knocked on the door....which they did too freaking early in the morning!

Without further ado.............

My new back yard!!!!

It really was a much bigger project than we expected. The biggest obstacle came when we decided to add the Ocean. You people have no idea how hard it is to move that much water.

All right fine......that ain't my yard. Sheeesh you could have pretended to believe me just for a minute or two.

The reality is so much less impressive. We added a drainage system to dry out our basement. It was so full of water when it rained that we were able to kayak and water ski. And we tore out our UUUUGLY concrete patio and sidewalk to replace it with something spiffier.

It wasn't a fun process.....I got pretty tired of the noise.

and dirt....lots of dirt.

Mix in a little rain...and you get mud...mud-o-plenty.

And the ever present....dust. (And no I did not take this picture because he was bent over...I am NOT that kind of blogger).

Progress ran a wee bit sloooooooooow.

But they worked really hard. (hmmm another butt shot...how did that keep happening?)

And finally................this..................

BECAME THIS..........

UGLY................

BECAME BEAUTIFUL................

AND SMALL..............

BECAME BIGGER.......
And even though our grass now looks like an alfalfa field.....and the dogs are currently at work building a haystack in my dining room.....

I'm still pretty happy that my hubby I came up with such a good idea!

I'm not looking forward to power washing all the crap off the siding, our wood floors, our furniture, and our dogs. And now I have a ton more planting beds to plant and weed. But all in all I'm pretty happy with it. And yes....Ozzie saw fit to "christen it"....several times in fact. It added a nice yellow glow and now it sparkles in the sun.

OMG, Nikki, I laughed so hard as I'm on the phone with Jill, she thinks something is wrong with me! Oh, how I love reading the shit you write! And it all came out beautiful, even without the ocean!

Nikki,
It turned out so beautiful and more practical than having to care for all the visitors you would have if it really were the ocean!
I am so glad YOU and(I can't put the slash through hubby,) thought of it!
I love the woods behind your home.
Come on now, you know all the workers showed their butt shots just for you:)!!!

Luv ya,

LOL You had me going with the first picture. I thought OMG I didn't realize you lived by the ocean and how beautiful!!! But it is still beautiful. Love the backyard and I think you will enjoy it so much next summer. I on the other hand have your before pictures for my backyard. I want your after. Just trying to decide how long I'd have to wear the darn bra for....lol

tam said...

Oh Nikki now come on that was worth wearing a bra and getting up early huh? LoL!I think it looks great! Happy planting!
~Tam :)

Nikki, you had me going at first... In my defense, I'm tired & my eyeballs are burning, so I didn't really SEE the OCEAN at first. Geesch! I think I need new glasses! I was impressed though!

Your new yard is amazing! It is going to be sooo beautiful this spring after you powerwash, weed, plant & battle Ozzie to keep him out of the new plants. Crumpet is an angel of course & would never consider harming a single new plant. :0} Diane

tam said...

OOOHH Yea come on over to my blog I have something there for ya!
~Tam It's a good thing LOL!

Just had to know what the bra-less thing had to do with getting an ocean in your back yard! I thought, is she skinny dipping?!? Well, now that I read about having to be presentable for the workers, I had to laugh, because, honey, I keep a bra in my pantry, just in case someone knocks on my door... I can run in there real quick and stuff them "twins" in my strapless bra in "no time"!! Ha ha...

Melody said...

LOL! And just when I was believing you about the ocean! ;-)

It looks GREAT! Congrats!

Hi Nikki:
Great pictures of your back yard project. It turned out great. I love that bay window (is that your kitchen?) and is that a gazebo around a spa back in the corner? It looks like you have a pretty big house and a big lot too. Beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Yea! No bra days are very popular around here, as well. *fist in air*

I think your new backyard is lovely, however, I think you should have insisted on the original plan. I mean if you're going to put up with that much noise, dust, dirt AND be forced to wear a bra, you really should have an ocean to enjoy when it's all over.

I'm just sayin'....

ko said...

wooooooo hooooooo no bra..thats the best!!! :) LOVE IT! IT LOOKS FANTASTIC...SO GOOD...I LOVE PAVESTONE look....:) AWESOME!!!! Hey...um..if I win the DIY Kitchen makeover..will you come live at my house for a couple of weeks and do it???? haha
wouldn't that be funny! :) LOVE YOU! LOVE YOUR NEW YARD...I also love how your 2 furry family members found their way in to the pictures!! :)

Beautiful yard transformation. I did laugh at your butt shots, however. It reminds me of when I was young and my dad would give my brother and I yard jobs to accomplish. We were kids. We didn't want to do it. He'd say, "Get to work and all I want to see is ass and elbows!" :) Yeah, we pretty much got it done after that. The hem-hawing stopped pretty quickly.

Blessings,

Sher

What's with all the braless bloggers! LOL You, Justine, Raxx...who's next?
The yard is looking great even with brown grass.

Girl, you r so darn funny. What a personality you have. It looks great ,the back yard. Your posts just make my day. mishelle

Your posts always brighten my days. Your puppy does just what my schnauzer used to do by rubbing the side of his head on strange things (of course mine would run while doing this - quite comical).
Your patio is just beautiful! Oh I how I hope to have one of these some day in the near future.
Now, take off that bra and fling it onto the chandy and party up girlfriend! It's Friday.

Glad you made it and it looks great. Just think of all the fun you'll have planting new things next spring LOL

Well geez, I had no idea when you came to visit you were going to take a picture of our back garden and post it as your own! That's gratitude for ya!

I jest...although I wish I weren't.

Awesome back garden remodel. But I gotta be honest, seeing all the reconstruction going on makes me dread this spring when we tear our back garden up and re-landscape. If ours ends up half as nice as yours, we'll be lucky!

Ah, I love bra-less days. The bra is the second thing that comes off after I get home from work - after the shoes.

The terrace looks gorgeous. I'm sure it was worth the pain. Please share more pictures with us in the spring.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog. You always have a smile here waiting for your readers. I love all of your posts.

Dang, I'm so disappointed. I was going to find out from you how you moved the ocean. I'd give anything, even my first-born to have the ocean out my back yard! LOL! Yup, first born and I don't see eye to eye often but his dad says I have to keep him around a few more months, LOL! J/K I love the stinker kid to death! Anyway glad to see (or not see as the case may be) that you can go bra-less again!! The patio turned out beautiful. I do need your help though. This little green creature has appeared on my shoulder and is making me green with envy.....how do I get rid of him?! LOL! You'll have tons of new friends this summer wanting to hang out here, heck all the kids may even move back in with you!!

Oh, I am laughing so hard! What a fun post, and how beautiful your patio looks (even if you didn't get the ocean to your backyard!)In my laundry room, which is next to the backdoor entry, I keep a denim vest, which I can put on over my braless shirt if someone comes to the door. Apparently, there are a lot of braless women running around their houses! laurie

Nikki, my dh was looking for your 'political' post and he saw the ocean view. He said wow and I said "Oh yeah, she has a beautiful home." Just now I had the best laugh when I saw your ocean view. I am going to let it alone. He thinks your home is amazing with that view. My motto is 'Never tell your husband anything he doesn't need to know.' I live by it. LOL.

Your improvement is gorgeous. I love the butt shots. I enlarged them. Unhuh, Not that kind of blogger. Ahem. Kidding , your workers did a great job.

Thanks for your sweet comments about Cocoa. I cried the whole time I was posting his story. My daughter asked me to do it for Cocoa. We do love our furballs so much.
