HAPPY SITSMAS DAY !!....Head over to "The secret is in the Sauce" and check out their big day of prizes every hour. The grand prize is a $200 Target gift card!...and get in on the bloggy loveathon!♥♥♥
Every now and then I see something in a magazine and think to myself......Hey I could make that!!! Yeah...let's just say that "reality" isn't my strong suit. So I was thumbing through a lovely little periodical and saw this picture. And those dreaded words popped out of my big old stupid mouth. So in a moment of insanity I headed off to Michael's and bought ..........
The magical makings of a crafty disaster. Oh but in my sad little overwrought brain I wasn't thinking disaster....I was thinking sparkly, fuzzy, magical thoughts. I was thinking that I was channeling Martha Stewart. I was blissfully out of my mind.
I started out slowly.....making sure that I didn't halfass this project. For I was sure this one was gonna be the one that put me on the map....this one was gonna be the one Craft project that actually worked. I was even going to record this masterpiece in digital glory!
And then reality reared it's ugly head.......... My base was too small (I stole it from my newly acquired cloche).....my birds were without feathered finery.....and my ornaments didn't dazzle. .....
And let's not even discuss the "tree things".
In the words of my (soon to be sleeping in the garage) hubby......"Nice Christmas shrubbery"
But am I dismayed?....have I given up this kooky notion that I am a crafting diva? NAY I SAY! On to the next project................

It looks WAY better than anything I could ever do!!
Well..I think that you are too hard on yourself! I think it looks kinda whimsical-ish..lol..better than I could do!
Happy SITSmas Day to you!
I am soooo not crafty at all. I'd have given up about halfway and declared it to be the dumbest idea I'd ever had... until the next issue of Good Housekeeping or Family Circle arrived, that is!
IT LOOKS GREAT! :) you did a wonderful job! MAN I hope it isnt as cold there as here...Your hubby will freeze! HAHAHA! I love that wreath!! :) I cant wait to see how that turns out!! WE FOUND JACKSON!
I think you did an awesome job!
I wouldn't have even attempted it in the first place!
Not the crafter, but I am crafty!
It looks just like the photograph so if you aren't happy, it is the fault of the designer not yours. The trees unusual and not your standard Christmas fare but the ornaments look great. Maybe you could just lose the trees.
I love the wreath and hope it turns out for you. I very seldom try anything crafty unless it's using Photoshop. My calling in life is to PURCHASE and admire other craft divas creations. It keeps the world balanced.
Hey I actually think it is a fine interpetation of the inspirational piece! Good luck on that gorgeous wreath!!!
~Tam :)
I kinda like it Nikki, just give those trees a spoonful of miracle grow and they will be perfect! okay! okay! I am already on my way to the garage.
Not being a crafter myself, I am impressed with your centerpiece. Enjoyed reading your hysterical take on it though. laurie
You are so funny, girl! You had me thinking an epic disaster was forthcoming. LOL I love the centerpiece!
"shrubbery"??? did I even spell it right? I am laughing at him! lol
I think it looks just fine...we are all too critical of ourselves...if it doesn't look exactly like I picture it in my head it is NEVER good enough! I think it is perfect! and you will always have the memory of his comment!
by the way...I tried a few years back to make that wreath...good luck! I used hot glue and wire...DO NOT USE HOT GLUE! you will not be happy!
good luck! and I hope you will post and tell me how you won!
I think it looks great - the Christmas shubbery of yours. Cannot wait to see your next project! I have to restart mine as well. Thanks for the inspiration.
How come I've never met you before?! I'm coming over from Dandelion Wishes from your Swap. I'm good blogging friends with CJ, Purple Diva and Jill Jill! AND you're LDS! What a great world this blog land is!!
COme check out our site! You are going on my blogroll!
Been there done that. Never turns out quite right for me either. Oh and the wreath thingy. Takes a long time and lots of balls. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy then make. lol. I have given up on Martha S. She doesn't like to share channel herself and i am mad at her.... mishelle
Oh yea and...Happy Merry SITSmas!
~Tam :O
From here it looks good! I like those but I don't think I could make it. I want to see your wreath if you make it. It looks pretty!
Thanks for the kind words you left. You have also been tagged. You probably have this one already but I am running short on people (work with me):)
Happy Merry SITSmas!
Cheryl
I'm kind of touch and go with the crafty stuff too. I WANT to be good at it but lots of times I'm just all thumbs. THEN...when I least expect it...something turns out great...therefore I continue to craft.
I want....another....SHRUBBERY!
Oh, sorry, got a little carried away there - not enough sleep plus huge opening for a Monty Python reference = impossible to resist. :D
I think the craft turned out well; far better than anything I could've done! Can't wait to see the wreath....!
Merry SITSmas, Happy Holidays and CHEERS!
(oh and ps - something is finally on its way to a certain canine member of your family... should arrive today or tomorrow!)
You crack me up! If I hadn't seen the original picture I wouldn't know the differences between the two. I've got a project to tackle over here that is bird related. We'll see if it turns out as well as yours.
I don't see what's wrong with it, although I personally would bling out the trees more and maybe mix the ornaments in the 2 groups. I think it's very elegant!
Hi Nikki,
I think you did a great job!!! Those projects never seem to be as easy as they look....lol
hahaha I am laughing at this because I was trying to have my own "Martha Moment" yesterday! I made a trip to Michael's and attempted to craft some Christmas cheer. I even blogged about it! Oh well! I think your crafts look beautiful....honestly...you are being way too hard on yourself :-)
I think it turned out cute!
Hi Nikki...I'll give you a pat on the back for even attempting to make it...to me it looks very much like the picture...and the stylists get paid the big $$ to do theirs...Cheers! ;-) Bo
It's cute!!!
Well I think it turned out pretty good!!! :-) I don't think I would have even tried!! You go girl!
Monica
I like them..how fun!! You should open an etsy shop..they are very "natural"...great job!
-sandy toes
An 'etsy store"..well, I wouldn't go that far...hee hee (sorry, couldn't resist). yep, I actually did LAUGH out LOUD at the shrubbery comment. I do hope you keep them out because they're cute, and you know all those dumb periodicals are photo shopped to death, don't you. Yep, they just cut/paste the finery and dazzle. :)
HEART. YOU!
I see right through you girl - you just needed us all to say " you done good" and You DID!! Can't wait to see the next disas - I mean project!! Really - honest!!!
Merry SITSmas! And you get an A for effort on your crafty project. Don't take this the worng way but I feel a closeness to you because I ahem, lack the crafty green thumb as well!
Merry SITSmas
I think you did a great job.
Good Morning Nikki, Well girlfriend I think it came out awesome... Does it look exactly like the picture in the magazine no but it has charm and looks beautiful... I LOVED it! Thanks for sharing this with us... you crafty woman you... Have a crafty day!
(((HUGS)))
Donna
No, no, Nikki, don't do it! If you ever get the "handle" on crafting, then you'll be perfect, and where oh, where does that leave ME?
Don't be so hard on yourself! Maybe get some of those tiny silver balls and add them to the trees. I can't wait to see your finished wreath. Nothing like starting small with the projects - LOL!
lol. You are hilarious! Okay, so it doesn't look exactly like it does in the magazine, but it's not too bad! ;)
Merry SITSmas!
Seriously, it looks good enough for me. I am always like this with baking things. I see a cake and think or I could do that. You should have seen the year I tried to decorate my cookies on a stick...yep talent I have not got!
Oh! I was laughing out loud on this one - NOT at your adorable little topiaries - they turned out great! but because your commentary has rambled through my brain at one time or another. Yes, I have tried to channel Martha - thinking that "Oh this will be it! I will be able to mass produce this {fill in blank} craft and make tons of money!" Glad I am not the only one who does that! But seriously, I think yours turned out really pretty! I have that same magazine and I would love for someone to tackle that wreath project. I am sure it is "oh so simple"! ;) ~ Laurie
Was yesterday National Michael's Day or what? I was there too... surprised I didn't bump into the rest of you ladies there... lol I wandered around in circles trying to decide what crafty items to buy and make, but then went into a menopausal sweat, left the basket sitting there with my stuff in it and headed outdoors to look for a snowbank to cool myself off in... But I forgot.. we haven't had any snow yet.
I'm not so great at the crafty stuff either, unless it involvs a needle and thread. We keep trying, though - that's the great part!! Sally
Wow - awesome crafties, Nikkicrumpet!
Merry SITSmas and a fabulous new year to you and yours!
XO
Anna
Damn Martha for making us all feel inadequate!
Let us know how the wreath turns out. hehehe
If I come over for coffee, do I need to bring my own biscotti?
: D
Don't compare your's to their's! I used to go nuts in homemaking bz my crafts never were as good as anyone else's but when I got them home all alone, by themselves, they looked just fine! This post cracked me up and brought back my old crafting memories!
I've given up on channeling Martha - now I just leave it all at the store and admire it from afar :)
I can't get Mr. Linky to work either - so I'm clicking on comments :)
I'm lovin' your Christmas shrubbery! You should toss a few of those silver icicles on them to give them that "festive" look:)
I desperately want to be a craft diva; but, alas, it just isn't in the cards....
You are being way to hard on yourself. Send it my way. I love it Nikki. Mine would turn out more like a barnyard scene. I know it. Keep us updated on all the attempts at your crafty talents for Christmas. Really cute.
lol...that's it, keep the dream alive, girl! I do love the wreath idea. I can't see how you could possibly go wrong with that.
Nikki: Here's the link to her room if you want more storage ideas. I totally love this room! http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/14574170
It looks great and you know it! :-)
Bahumbug hubby!!
Who doesn't love some good Christmas Shrubbery?
Forget Martha Stewart, she's a felon.
Yours totally rocks!!
Wait, are you a felon?
Em
Thank God for your blog..you make me laugh! Thanks for sharing....and the craft project looks pretty good actually. Good luck with the wreath! Cindy
Well I learned a lesson from you on covering the styrofoam tree shape with florist tape. I have never done that. You are giving me good ideas. I too like your project and LOVE the wreath. We need upclose and personal pics of that wreath!
Kudos for giving it the "old school try" so to speak. And the wreath looks like a totally cool project.
I think it's beautiful!! Merry SITSmas!
I actually think your trees look like sea monsters, I mean, just like the example in the magazine! You did an outstanding job. :)
Merry SITsmas and a hearty HO HO HO! Craft on SISTah!
I think it is pretty. Okay you need a bigger base and it will look like the picture. But all in all you did a great job. Don't give up YOU CAN DO IT!! Do we need to tell you the story of the little train that could? I hope not I am a lousy story teller. Keep up the great work. You have an awesome blog. I love it!
Hugs, Bobbi Jo
oh girl, don't feel bad.we can't all be martha stewart.but then could she write a blog as happy and funny as yours?i don't think so.ta da----------....ann
I think it looks cute Nikki!
There's no way I could have pulled of anything CLOSE to that. I think it is a perfectly respectable craft project. :)
And PALEESE teach me how to make that ornament wreath in that picture! Cant wait to see how you do it.
Marvelous! Failed craft projects almost make for such funny blog-fodder that it's almost worth it (not that it looks that bad). I recently tried to make a felted hat for my FIL as a Christmas gift... It shrunk so much that it didn't even fit my kids! Now it's a basket. Good luck with your future projects!
Nikki, I'd be proud to create something that looked even remotely like that. Full credit for having the enthusiasm to even attempt it - and it keeps the fingers flexible ready for blogging.
well i woulda pasted the paper on those cone things but i am not crafty at all LOl Merry SITSmas to you too
I think it looks great! Good for you for trying a new project. The wreath looks a little overwhelming to me...good luck with that one!!
It looks great I like it :)
Am I crazy in that I think they came out great?
A very Merry SiTSmas to you!
(pssst...there's a give away over on my blog to celebrate :) )
That's way more than I've even attempted. I saw one of the wraeths, but haven scared to try. Maybe I will now. Merry Sits-mas!
I think it turned out quite nice! Of course, it never turns out like in the mags...I've learned that the hard way :-) Happy day to you!
I think it looks great! But I'm amazed at anyone who does crafty things! Merry SITSMAS! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
Merry SITSmas! I think it looks great!
Great ideas!!! Merry SITSmas!
You are a crafty genius!
How about you make one for me and send it my way?
Well, I think it looks great! Merry SITSmas!
Merry SITSmas!!! Happy commenting!
Angie
"Nana's Box"
I think it looks good! You're much too hard on yourself. Go for that wreath and be sure and document it all with pictures!
Hi Nikki! O stop it! It is adorable and has a great natural, organic look!!! You did a great job, lookin forward to wreath! Have a great night - Sincerely J
I do the same thing. Never turns out as well as yours did though. lol Have a Merry SITSmas day!
I couldn't do that well.
But you'd better watch out. PETA is going to come after you for sticking that pole up that pretty bird's butt.
I say it looks great. Keep going! I'm feeling Martha vibes radiating from you. ;-)
It looks BEAUTIFUL. What a brave lady you are for trying! You really are too hard on yourself. And while we are on the subject your hands and legs are quite cute too♥♥♥ They so do not belong to somneone who can't see her toes:-) You are a funny lady who cheers us all up. You hubby could actually sleep in the garage here. It almost made it to 60 degrees today. Can you believe it's that warm for December?
I agree with Beverly~Martha move on over!
Haha-but seriously, it looks gorgeous! Great job!
Merry SITSmas, SITSta!
You're braver than me. At least he didn't quote Monty Python :) hehehe Merry SITSmas
Oh, I think it's cute. It probably took 10 stylists a gazillion hours to make your inspiration piece! I like your attitude :) Merry SITSmas!
I think you did a great job, and I guarantee it's better than anything I could do. I'm SO not crafty. Thanks for the smile and laugh. Thanks also for visiting my blog. I'll be posting more pictures after our Christmas Stroll this weekend, so if you like "charming", stay tuned lol. Kathy
Lord have mercy...no he didn't call it Christmas shrubbery! I'd put him in the garage too...for a long winter's nap. I think it turned out well. Now about the wreath...save yourself the trouble & just go to Pier 1...they usually have them every year for $20 or so. LOL!
I think it looks very pretty...
Hugs
Maria
Hey Merry SITSmas,
I'm so not able to make cute crafty things. I have recognized this fault and no longer try.
I don't know what you're talking about, I think it's lovely and way better than anything I might have thrown together. Thanks for stopping by today. Merry SITSmas.
I think it turned out great! I learned long ago not to listen to my inner Martha Stewart. I'd end up spending a ton on something that turned out truely hideous! Then feeling guilty about money spent...Id stash it away in some closet where it would continue to haunt me for years to come*sighs* Did I mention that my closets are dangerous? Anyhoo BIG bonus points to you for making it work for ya! *winks* Vanna
I think it's charming!
And, you don't really want to be like Martha. She's an ex-con!
Enjoyed my visit here!
Merry SITSmas!
Merry SITSmas to you! I think it's cute!
I like it even if you don't. I never like the things I make. I would much rather pay someone to make it for me. Which is why Luvpilot always has to pick up extra flights at work.
That wreath looks amazing. Can't wait to see your pics of that.
The fuzzy duck says he likes the gold birds.
Thanks for sharing your Boo-Boo! I can relate to little blunders like that! Fabulous! Great music today. I may linger for a bit. I am getting jiggity with it.
You are hilarious. I like the project--maybe with a bit of tweaking! Get some feathers and a little bit more glitter and BAM...there's a beautifu scene!
Merry SITSmas. I am a want to be crafty person. I have not one artistic skill. Not one. I liked your crafts. Can't wait to see more.
"The magical makings of a crafty disaster."
BWA HA HAHA !!!!
And I do believe you are the first person I've ever witness use "halfass" as a verb. Nicely done.
And thank you for your kind words over on Pickles and Princess!
Have a Merry Merry SITSmas, Ms. Crumpet!
I dunno, I kinda like the tree-decoration thingy...I'd make a nest in it!
Merry SITSmas! Filled with lots of love! LOL I love the reality of it all! Long live the hot glue!
i like the mossy trees :) better then i could do. wait, that's not saying much... i suck at home decor crafts. i should say "i'd buy that!"
don't hurt yourself making that HUGE ornament wreath!! (seriously, glass bulbs hurt SO bad!!)
Good Luck
Merry SITSmas!
WOW those crafts turned out beautifully! You're a woman of many talents!!!
I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas!
Wow !! I don't think I have ever seen a blog with such a following... And you are so funny too. I loved your crafty side, it was very good!! I wanted to come by and thank you for the sweet comment that you left on color outside the lines. I have alway loved your style too...smiles vickydarnell
Way to go, Nikki! You get points for trying. I thought it looked great :-).
And I'd love that pink wreath!!
I think you did a fine job! It's more crowded than in the magazine, but what do they know?
I have the same distorted reality problem. The cupcake bites I tried about did me in! I am sure the crafty bug will bite me again soon.
I am on my way over with my glue gun right now. I can't wait to see your balls. Wreath that is. Make me one too.
hahaha I can so relate. I'll see something and think I can recreate it. Of course, everything I do ends up looking like something a 3rd grader might have done. That isn't to say yours looks like a 3rd graders craft project. I think yours turned out really well.
Happy Merry SITSmas day to you and thanks for stopping by!
Girl I give it to ya for the effort and yes my hubby would definitly be "out" with the shrubbery cause he would've said the same thing, LOL!!!!
Since you are so in need of comments(jerk) I have another one. Martha Stewart just called and suggested you cut that tall one down(from the bottom) and make it closer to smaller one's size. But a tad taller. I told Martha to mind her own business-that you were Nikki Crumpet. But then she offered me homemade apple pie and I caved.
Hey, I actually like it! Way better than anything I could do, but that's not saying much.
Good luck with the next project and I love your positive outlook!
LMAO Nikki...not at you, but at what your hubby said. Got enough room in your garage for my hubby and his comments about my Charlie Brown Tree?
When I was in Las Vegas last month, I went into Michaels and had a cart full of stuff. I walked around forever, then put everything back, because I remember all my past mistakes of trying to copy something. Got their 40% off coupon and went and bought something premade. LOL
Ginger
Funny post, I think they are beautiful, great story. Have fun on your next project. Thank you also for your visit to my blog, SITSta! Happy Holidays to you all!
I am not the crafty type either and I know that. It is good that you tried.
Merry SITSmas.
Awww, you're being to hard on yourself! The wreath is beautiful, I've always wanted to do one of those also! Merry SITSmas! Thank you for visiting my blog today!
Merry SITSmas! Thanks for visiting my blog! I LOVE your post! So so funny! I too am craft-challenged...so I might have to steal your idea and show some of my less than stellar creations! Now that I've rested my cramped hands, I'm off to visit some more SITSas!
Oh I think it's cute. You did a good job. Merry SITSmas!
Well, I don't think that Martha could have done it any better....Robyn
Christmas shrubbery..that's funny! I think it's cute.
That was the cutest blog posting that I have read in a long time.
You win the funny award. Thanks for making me laugh...not at your craft but at your great writing skills.
Becky
Hey Nikki...you know I'm from Jersey and you can say what you want about us but we tell it like we see it....It's a Mess...
Sue.
I LIKE it! I am glad you shared it like it is though....thanks for keeeping real girlie! Cherry
Merry SITSmas! I'm so not crafty, but the thought is fun!
Honest to Gosh Nikki, Your a nut! I get so much joy out of your posts! Can't wait to see that wreath...LOL Lord have mercy, help me!!!LOL I can't stop laughing.....Nancy
Okay Nikki, I think I have control of myself now, I think it looks good...It's your comments that crack me up!!!!! Nancy
Merry SITSmas!!
I think it looks pretty good, even if the hubby says it's shrubbery!
I have the same problem--I think I can do everything! Except I pick new projects just so I don't have to clean the house...
Oh, girl, I do that all the time. My projects never turn out like their inspirations. Check the pics on my blog for proof, lol! For what it is worth, I really like it!
Thanks for coming by my blog today. Merry SITSmas!
Well, fart on the hubby! lol. I think it's pretty. Plus, I bet they went through 20 of those things before they got one perfect enough for the pic.
It was my pleasure donating to SITS. Merry SITSmas!
Huh! Way better than anything I could have made! I would totally put that on my table! Merry SITSmas!
AAHhh..I love your attempt at going green!! LOL..sorry. It does look great for a shrubbery..sorry again!!
I actually like it. Those are not as easy as they look to make and you did very well..sitsta (I'm not one just had the urge to say it)!
The wreath will be a great one to.
Nikkster...
You know I'd be the first to tell you if your project looked like crap! But it's really pretty. Give it to me and I will set it on the wide screen at the trailer if you don't want it.
Eve
love it! it's always fun to try new things. love the sunflowers btw
To me it looks just like the photo, not that is a good thing ;)
The second projects looks like alot more fun.
Happy Holidays "George Traitor" ;)
I think you did a pretty damn good job. Although one thing... it looks like you went outside and picked dead grass to stick to your cones. ROFL! But other than the rotten sod, it looks great! Can't wait to see if you make that ginormous wreath!
Oh, and don't give all of us that shit that you're not crafty. Looks to me like you have a whole wall dedicated to crafting!
Justine :o )
*giggle* Monty Python will gladly accept your shrubbery.
Can't wait to see your wreath!
BTW Thank You for the shout out on your SITS comments yesterday! Was that not THE most fun giveaway marathon? Holy crackers!
WHat a cute and sweetly worded post. The joys, challenge and excitement of making a craft far outweighs the outcome. There, I hope it would make you feel better:)
I'll be back for your next project. Goodluck:)
Good grief girl, I hope you see this, 137 comments?, I don't get that in a month LOL.well, anyway I tagged you, so please come visit me.
Love Ya,
Chris
I think it turned out nice:)
/slight sarcasm
But looking at it again..I think that it is actually really good. Seriously I just thing that magazine have some awesomely bright lighting and obviously a pro photographer. So all in all I think that it prolly is pretty close to what they have shown in the picture:D
Morning Nikki! I think it turned out fantastic...I couldn't even have tackled that one! lol Thanks for coming by girl...just knowing you said the word 'high end' made me feel 'Martha'! lol lol Have a great week girl..you go on & do that wreath...it will be glorious!
Merry SITSmas! I don't think it looks half-bad. Add some lights and it will be great!
Hey, Nikki, stop at my blog when you can. I want to hear your two cents on my "Same Day Service" post. :-)
Recovered yet from yesterday??
I seriously think it's great! You did it just right.
And I wish you luck on your next project. Hope you will post it here, too. Be looking forward to it ;)
Cookie's Corner
My Girl
Merry SITsmas! WOW! So impressed. I'm not very crafty but now I'm inspired.
I think we may have the same kind of dog. Your profile pic caught my eye. I have a goldendoodle. Is that what your blond dog is? Just curious.
I love it....what did you use for the base????? By the way...you go girl..I want me an ornament wreath too.....I am slowly but surely collecting antique ornaments...soemday!
These turned out nice..
Merry SITSMAS!
