CELEBRATE WITH ME!!!

It's here !! It's here !! It's National Dictionary Day! The day you wait for all year long!

Okay maybe the rest of you aren't as ebullient as me. But there is no reason to be lugubrious.

Really what's better than a day to show off your sesquipedalism! Oh don't think I don't see you going all floccinaucinihilipilificative on me! Maybe a day like today is a bit esoteric, but I find it very ostrobogulous. And I don't mean to jargogle all you Gilly-gaupuses but I couldn't let this day pass without saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY Noah Webster! Now I'm starting to sound like an ultracrepidarian and this has become inefficacious so I'll just desist.

Noah Webster's house is about 10 miles from me. I've been meaning to get there for the last 3 years and I have yet to do it!

I can't remember who it was that said they had to look up every word they don't know, but they should have a good time with your post today!! I'll have to look them up later since I'm at work but there are no jobs to type right now. As for Rosie, there are many, many things I probably would have said if my girls weren't with me. TRUST ME, I'm not as nice when someone is dishonest with me as you might think!! I just come off nicer in print I guess! LOL!!

Oh Nikki...how smart you are...you can speak a foreign language, at least it's foreign to me...very foreign! Fun post today, ;-) Bo

WOW! Cute AND smart! You've got the whole package.

My sister will be thrilled to know that she shares a birthday with Noah Webster. We're kind of geeky that way:)

I wish I could shoot back with equally brilliant words, but I seem to have left my word of the day calendar in High School. Yes, I had a group of friends that would quiz each other all day on the word of the day. No drinking, no drugs, just fancy words for us!

Will someone explain what she just said, please..LOL

Hugs,
Chris

Heavens have mercy on us! You sound like our son did all last week preparing for an exam of the logest medical terms I'd ever hear. You would make a great addition to the Readers Digest Vocabulary test of knowledge of words. I wouldn't have gotten any of these, but just because my smart hubby is at work.
Oh and I have MUD on my FACE, precious woman from Mass. I really was just thinking of Kathie Lee Gifford from Conn:) while peeping out of the plane! How tiny weeny my brain felt when I tried to look up on a map last evening to see where it was my fellow Utahan landed herself on the beautiful Eastern coast.
MASS! I screamed and my husband said "So, you made a mistake, whats the big deal?"
Sorry, I thought I was going by memory and this memory isn't like it used to be:) I still thought of you even if you were a state away....

I love the dictionary! When I used to teach I would often get asked, "How do you spell...." and my reply was, "Here's a dictionary, go look it up."

Loved using that line...

Can you believe that my kids can actually talk like that? They have to keep it quiet though. Annie was made fun of the other day because she used the word Auburn and the other girls had never heard of it. She was like ... "duh! It's a color..." LOL

Your jocosity and sagacity are transcended only by your prolific fecundity and unsurpassed eloquence.

I'm so glad you started blogging, my friend. You always make us laugh and that's a "good thing," as Martha used to say.

Sincerely,

Janie

I just got this note from you, Nikki ...

YAY JANIE!!! You win best comment of the day! Not that there is a prize or anything...

I am so humbly proud, Nikki. And your choosing MY comment as the "Best Comment of the Day," was prize enough ... lol

Whata fun post! I LOVE words! bill and I are sort of dictionary geeks! We loved asking Dan, and now Grace, what they think certain words actually mean! Their answers are pretty funny sometimes but often, they get it right and that was always pretty cool.

You are always such a *convivial* hostess...thank you for the smiles!

Love,
Sue

Sad thing is that I used to know someone who talked like that. Attitude and all. Lol. The person figured if the big words were used, it would make a big person.

Love your blog and I love your posts. I remember you from RMS when you did your "red toile guest room." (Loved it to, BTW) I happened to be blog hopping the other day and stumbled across you - I have added you to my favs as well as become a dedicated follower, not stalker, follower - I hope you don't mind?
I've just created my own blog, so I am taking very tiny baby steps - can't believe you've been at it only 2 mos. - you seem like a pro.
Thanks for the funny Webster laugh.
Have a good evening.

I'm a writer, so it's only natural that I love words. But what warms my heart even more is that my six-year-old, who is a fine reader, is ADDICTED to the dictionary. She's been copying words and definitions out of the dictionary for the past three weeks (I taught her how to look up words, so now that she's got that licked, she's putting her newfound knowledge to fine use). Of course, now I'm finding little pieces of paper all over the house, with definitions for words like "continent" and "slumber" and "pledge" scribbled on them. I can't even be mad about the mess! Cute post!

jori-o said...

Haha, you should have your blog rated on its level of readability--you'll be PhD material!

Where in Utah did you grow up? We sat in the airport on our way to Switzerland to see my mom. The kids remember being on the wrong side of the road with a stop light coming up and fearing for their lives. It is so funny for them to tell it. They all 3 say the same thing with they tell it separately. It was overcast, but then so was Switzerland. If I go by where you grew up, I'll take pictures for you.

Tulsi said...

NEW ENGLAND.............. I"m brilliant, something you should know about me right off the bat. All of the above is true, but who cares. I love pictures from the New England area. We have moved around a bit with the UHP so have been all over Utah. I'll still send pics if we go to your area.
