Those of you who have been visiting here for awhile may remember our little patio transformation that took place about 6 months ago....for those who don't remember the "ugliness" of it all...here is a reminder...
Before.......
After................
and how it looks after the last few weeks of work................15 Hostas, Solomon Seal, Jacobs ladder, a couple of Fox Gloves, Pachysandra, and some Impatiens in pots to add a little color.
This was the sickly patch of grass we were left with after they tore things up.........
And here is the way it looks now.....
I planted 3 big yummy Hydrangeas and some Potentilla, a wisteria vine, and laid down a doggy trail with some slate. Since that is the trail they've been taking for the last year, I figured I'd better leave it for them to run through. Or suffer the consequences of them bounding through the bushes.
Another HIDEOUS before.........
After....................
And now................
UGH............
And......getting there...... It won't look so weirdly lopsided when the wisteria starts to spread up the string. We're hoping it will cover most of this side of the shed and spread over the eaves. Oh and check out my topsy turvy tomato...I sure hope it grows. Hopefully this year the bunnies won't get them all!

Absolutely gorgeous!!! LOVE it!!
Simply beautiful. I want to come and hang out there and compare plant notes! I love the little fence on the flower bed with the doggy stones. Where did you get that cute thing.
One of these days we will quit working in our yards and start to enjoy them! Go enjoy it now! It looks awesome!
Boo hoo hoo! I wish I had a green thumb and my yard looked like this. Just beautiful, Nikki! And what a cute little shed. :)
Not so hideous "befores" but definitely fabulous "afters". I think I wanna come over and hang out. 'kay?
What a lot of work you've put into the place. You HAVE to be proud.

Wow Nikki, this looks incredible. I hope you're taking advantage of that gorgeous pool after all your hard work. Let me know how that topsy turvey tomato planter works out. Cait wants one for her apt balcony. Your yard looks spectacular, it definitely could be on HGTV. Just like a little vacation at home. Kathy
I certainly am impressed...you're really going to enjoy your beautiful updated outside space this summer.
Wow, this looks awesome!
Incredible transformations Nikki; how proud you must be to see such fantastic results after putting in so much work. Now, if I could just twitch my nose and do the same thing here...
Morning Nikki,
I know you have shown us your yard before and it was beautiful then, but now it is absolutely STUNNING! Your hard work definitely shows. I would be so proud to have a back yard & pond area like that! You did a FABULOUS job.♥
Beautiful work! The before and after pictures say it all! A lot of work went into that and it looks like you had a clear vision of what you wanted and then accomplished that. We are slow over here on the plains to get things done. Of course it all takes money and by the time we have it, something else is needed! Great job!
wow you really did do a lot of work great job looks beautiful!
Gorgeous yard! My husband and I LOVE working in the yard and we often have to make room for just one more plant. We have rabbits in our neighborhood, too, but the 10 foot marble-capped wall keeps them out of the backyard.
Now, I want a pool!
Beautiful! Can I come hang out with you? :)
Oh, Dear Nikkiness, you're excused! This is so beautiful. You could be a landscape designer. I can't imagine anything prettier. Love love love it!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Holy cow...That is gorgeous!!
Seems like everything you touch turns beautiful! :)
Whoa...you have been busy. Good excuse from staying away from the computer!
Looks fabulous! Luvpilot has been being a good yard boy and prettying up our yard too. Except he forgets to water my flower pots when I'm out of town. Guess I'll be going to the nursery again.
Everything looks so beautiful! I love the big blue pots...those are awesome!
Wow Nikki!! You have been busy.. everything looks awesome! You deserve to take a lil more time just to sit back relax and admire all the beauty you've created. Love the border around the shed garden!! Good luck with the turvy tomato hanger.. this is my first year using one as well. My tomato plant is all freaky looking right now.. its refusing to grow downward and has taken a turn upward.
Hugs,
Debbie
oh wow, the yard is looking AMAZING!!!!!!! And look at the size of the fish in the pond. What the hell are you feeding them? The rascally rabbits?
Can't wait to see your hydrangea blooming!
Justine ;o )
Your yard looks wonderful! You really have been busy to get get looking so pretty. You must share more pictures later as things fill in. I bet you get out there now and then and relax with one or two of your many books. I can so see myself out there with a good book or favorite magazine and a tall glass of something cool to drink like iced tea.
You yard looks amazing! Great job! What kind of edging is that? (that looks sort of like tiny piles of stacked wood you have as edging on the flower beds on the corner) I have never seen any like that and i love it! Love the pool too...I am jealous!
How idyllic!
I love your yard!!
and the best part is that you did it yourself!
GM Nikki...girl this is looking real good...I bet your body is sore from all this moving and digging...Love seeing the fur babies yard...May you have a great day my friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Absolutely lovely changes, Nikki ! It is a real pleasure to look and see how much your ideas changed things ! The plants/flowers will be gorgeous as they grow in - the hydrangeas especially get enormous over time, and are so pretty in a big garden like you have !
That's beautiful, Nikki. Puts my little balcony garden to shame. :o)
Ok, I get it. I don't have a green thumb because you cut in line ahead of me and was doubly blessed! :)
Grand transformation.
Hi, I'm a regular lurker to your blog, I just don't usually comment, but I thought I'd say hi and that you backyard is looking sooooo good!!! Good job on all the hard work! Are you in the Boston area?? Or am I not remembering very well? (That would not be surprising)
When did you say I could move in??
All I can say is WOW! Your yard is really beautiful. I love everything you have done - a gorgeous job.
Now you just need to Enjoy it!!
Nikki, You've been a very busy lady & it's GORGEOUS! I'm so impressed. You should link your post on Susan's Met Monday so other people can be impressed too! ☺♥☺ Diane
Oh my~ I'm green with envy over here....but you deserve some cartwheels for this my friend. I love the wisteria ( I planted 2 this year ) and it will look so scrumptious climbing all over the building. Hydrangea doesn't do well here, so I'm having a fit over yours. Now, I must know what kind of trim or edging that is around that little bed with the stone. My topsy turvey is doing pretty good but my friends is way bigger than mine already. I've been a long time fan of your pond....love it!!
Enjoy!
Hugs & cartwheels ~ J
oh honey that is the most beautiful yard i have ever seen!!!! stunning :) i'll load up the margaritas and sun tan oil and be right over !!

WOW! I love before and after photos, and these are terrific! I hope you and your family have many happy warm afternoons spent out on your beautiful new patio. Enjoy!
Your yard is looking so lovely! I'll know why you aren't blogging this summer, you'll be floating in that pool and trying to train Crumpie to bring you a nice cold drink.
I can't begin to express how I love the makeover! It is beautiful! You did a great job. I pray that one day I can live in a place whose weather will allow me to have a lovely garden and patio.
Looks great!! Yard work has been keeping me away from a lot of things lately.
Nikki, this looks so fabulous! I wanna come relax in your back yard. You do the yard work; I'll do the relaxing! So many wonderful spots to take in. You have been working hard. I believe you! laurie
It's official....you have to fly out here and do some magic in my yard!! This is absolutely fantastic and I mean it!!
So dang pretty --CAN I COME VISIT , LIKE FOR A MONTH OR 2..I promise, I'll stay out of your way, and I only eat chocolate and crab legs, and fancy drinks, and omlettes --can you handle that. Otherwise you'd not even know I was there--I'd just be lounging at your pool --ordering those drinks. Hey, I am off to the great white north --will check up on you when I get back my friend --unless I get ate by some bear and that would totally such---especially since I am coming to your house for an extended visit
Very impressive! I have a purple thumb---not green by any means---so I am even more impressed!
Oh Nikki, it looks gorgous...great job!! Totally worth the time off although we've missed ya mucho ;-) And I'm trying to find a topsy turvy for my f-i-l for father's day! My dad made his own 'ghetto' version, tee hee...by using a 5 gallon bucket and drilling holes and hanging it from the side of his birdfeeder. It actually is growing tomatoes but they are starting to curve and grow up, ha.
Jamie :)
Your yard looks great. Some one should submit you to Home and Gardens Magazine!
Blogging is a winter sport. Enjoy that gorgeous yard.
You did a beautiful job!
-FringeGirl
Everything looks so wonderful, Nikki!
You sure have been working hard...now you deserve some relaxaion by the pool :)
Tracey
Gorgeous! I'm packing my suit and heading over!
OK you really have been busy!
And can I send my boys over to fish in your pond garden?? Those fish are HUGE! They are real, right?????
beautiful!
My Landscape Architect self loves what you've done. I should post some pics of my garden too but I'd actually have to go out and weed it first!
What a beautiful transformation, Nikki ... and I can just imagine all of your hard work that went into creating it.
Everything you did is perfect, and I look forward to seeing the pond again when everything is blooming.
Take some time out to enjoy it now!

I don't know if there are words for how beautiful your yard is!! I love it, your hardwork has really paid off!
Nikki, it's absolutely stunning! I've been slaving in my yard as well. Youngest son graduated from high school on Saturday and we had a huge party on Friday evening. I'm so tired today, may I just come float in your pool? I'm impressed with all of your hard work.

Jocye
You have been a busy girl. Everything looks so great. You are so lucky to be able to grow hydrangeas. They don't do very well here in dry old Utah. But we do have Taco Time so it kind of makes up for it. Mimi
SPECTACULAR!!What a transformation! It looks really great! You'll reap the benefits of your hard work year after year, really nice!
WOW!!!! BEE-UTIFUL!!!! I love it...now when is the backyard BBQ??? I'm ready to jump in your pool!!!

I've been super busy too, trying to keep up with all my stuff, plus the animals, plus hard hours working for Gail. I hope to update my blog in the next couple of days. I sure miss blogging and visiting with my friends.

Wow! Your yard looks amazing! We are still picking up limbs and tree pieces from the ice storm!
Now if the weather would just cooperate a bit!
Woah! I remember those first pictures of the backyard and you shared what all you had planned. Wow - you must be so incredibly proud, because it's beautiful now! Just wondering.... if someone wanted/NEEDED help with fixing up a backyard, are you fore hire? I can't send pictures of my backyard - it's a disgrace! Your's - stunning!
Gorgeous! Very motivating. Love what you did. And your little red barn is adorable.
Beautiful. Now, do the dogs actually use the slate trail? Our experience has always been that they run NEXT to it...at least the kids have fun...sheesh!

Let me know how those topsy turvy tomato things work - Oldest wanted to buy them, but we already have cherry tomatoes growing. In the storm the other night, I put my strawberry pot on the ground so it wouldn't blow over - I totally forgot until the next morning when I noticed bunnykins having a wonderful breakfast.
Curses!!
Love your backyard - it looks fabulous!
