GO AHEAD....MOCK ME !

I had to work today. So let's just say not a lot got done. But I did throw together some fall decor for the inside of my home.

Now keep in mind a couple things here. First I've never decorated the inside of my home for fall. Before I found blogland I didn't realize you were even supposed to. I'm amazed at the things you people do...I mean come on....who has matching plates enough to feed 8 people??? Center pieces??? Umm....in my house we call that "food". There are days my self esteem would be in the toilet (and not a clean one I might add) if it weren't for this one simple fact. I've decided...that my duty to all of blogland...is to be "THAT WOMAN" ... you know the one...the gal who makes you all feel good about yourselves. The one where you can point and snicker and say to yourself..."I may not be perfect....but at least I'm not HER"! So on that note. I'm going to present to you my valiant attempt on fall decor. And no...none of it is home made, recreated from something and became something else...or will inspire you to hit the "copy to my files" key. Remember now....I am here to boost your ego and make you feel superior!

Nikkicrumpet presents........... STICKS & ROCKS
I'll admit it's not very "fallish" but it was my first attempt.

Nikkicrumpet presents.........SOMETHING EDIBLE THIS WAY COMES.
Did you notice that it's just candy in a cheap glass pumpkin? Because I was trying to camouflage that fact by adding some fake bittersweet....I thought it gave it just a hint of panache'

Nikkicrumpet presents............MY FIRST CLOCHE...WHATEVER THE HECK A CLOCHE IS!
Before I came to blogland I'd never heard of a cloche...I'm still not sure I'm even spelling it correctly. But I figured if I wanted to fit in here I needed to get me one of these. I gotta admit I think they are pretty fine looking filled with little treasures.

Nikkicrumpet presents.....Island decor that doesn't consist of mail & other extraneous junk my hubby drops there no matter how many dang times I threaten his life!

So there you have it...and that's as good as it's gonna get this year. I'm hoping that some of your creative ways will rub off on me over the next 12 months. And by next year I'll be a "Fall Diva" like you all! And if the earth tips on it's axis and all the planets align...I might even buy a set of matching dishes!

I had several people ask about the spray paint gadget...Here's a picture of this little treasure...$7 at the Home Depot...and it's MONEY WELL SPENT! it fits any spray can...it clips on and off easy as can be...and you don't have to clean it after each use. Now that's my kind of tool!!

I think your fall decorations look wonderful :)
Don't feel bad, I don't have one of those cloche thingies either, but it is really cool...maybe I need one...come to think of it If I put my pretty fall leaves and such under one then the cats couldn't get to them to bat at, chew, etc etc...yep, I NEED ONE!!
By the way, didn't you say you are a kitchen designer? If so, that cracks me up that you dont like to cook and bake :)
Take care, Tracey

Sorry but you did not make me feel better. I'm still saying why can't I be like her! Your sticks and stones are closer to fall than anything I have. lol You are going to have to do a lot less to make me feel superior.

I don't augment the decorations in my home much. I figure if I don't have a seasonal wardrobe, my house doesn't get one either.

Nice centre piece....I confess I snooped a little bit around your home while I was checking out the decoration. Lovely little place you have there.

No Mocking here! WOW!
Your fall decor looks great! My family would love the candy corns in the glass pumpkin! What is a cloche? If the glass covering the nice fall decor is one, you did one heck of a job making it look beautiful.
Are you sleeping already? You are going to be so knocked out when your company arrives. I can't believe all you are accomplishing! It all looks so inviting...they will love it! Have a good time and enjoy your mom and sis.
Hey, we are coming East to visit family in a couple weeks...hmm, I wonder if our daughter in law will iron our sheets?:) Nope, Just Niki does things like that. See how awesome you are?

Nikki, I can't think of a better way to start my days than by reading your wonderful stories. You always make me laugh, and I love the way you word things.

Your mom and sisters-in-law are going to be so impressed with your fall decorating, not to mention their IRONED sheets! I know they're going to feel so special and will love every minute of their visit in your beautiful home.

Thank you for sharing the spray paint thing with us. I'm going to get one the next time I go to Home Depot.

Enjoy your guests and don't forget to show us that pretty little stool when you finish it.

Sincerely,

Janie

Hi Nikki! I think you did a fabulous job on your fall decor. Mine consists of a vinyl tablecloth, a leaf-shaped place mat in the center and a pumpkin/gourd salt and pepper shaker set. I'm hopeless!

Well I think you did an absolutely wonderful job. You can come decorate my home any time. I especially love how you put the candy corn in a pumpkin bowel. Very cute. I can't do anything like that because I would eat the candy LOL Your kitchen is sooo beautiful! I just love it!

First off - you bought it at HD!! Yeah!!! Mr. Hallisicle thanks you!

And second...all your creations look great. But my Atkins starved body particularly LOVES the candy corn centerpiece!

LOL - I think you are in the majority Nikki - none of my friends decorate for fall - other than some pumpkins on the front steps and that's only because their kids demand one for carving! But wait - what do you mean you didn't know you were supposed to decorate - what did you think ALL those fall items in every store were for? You know, in Target, Home Depot, Home Goods, TJMaxx, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond.....LOL Hummmmmm... you can't fool us - and we love you anyway!! Your home is gorgeous without the need for embellishments!!

The spray thingy is a good idea.

The sticks and stones are proof that you ARE a decorator. How simple. How beautiful.

You decorated your island? I've never known anyone to do that! So, IF you decide to cook, you have to move all of that stuff first? (sigh)

You are not That woman. You can't be That woman. I am That woman.

Ya did good girl. I too had never heard of a cloche before blogging. They are hard to find around here but I'm happy to say I now own three. Finding things that look good in them is a challenge too.

You have a beautiful home. Love Love Love your kitchen!

Now, that all looks pretty, Nikki! Don't diss on yourself like that. Very pretty. I have yet to put anything out & mine will only be my foyer table...that's it! So don't feel bad about being out of the loop. I'm not much for Fall decorating inside or outside. Still gotta figure something out for my frontdoor.

Oh, your spraypaint contraption must be better than mine. I'll have to look for the Rustoleum one. Mine is a little flimsy & moves too much.

Hi Nikki,
I haven't done any fall decorating...so you are way ahead of me. Isn't the first day of fall Sept. 21st???? We have plenty of time!

Thanks for the tip on the spray can gadget...I need one.

Love your fall arrangement!

Hi Nikki,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. And just so you don't feel alone - I am one of "those women" too. Although I have decorated for fall before, I only have one "good" set of matching dishes (and I inherited those), I had never heard of a cloche until I enter blogland (but I have to admit they make dusting easier) and I haven't seen the top of my island in ages.

I love your fall decorations and your home in general. I can remember that your kithcen was the one that got me hooked on RMS - which led to my discovery of blogs (and I am glad I recently came across yours). So the next time my husband says "Are you blogging again?". I can say "yes, and it's all Nikki's fault!" ;)

Have a great day, JoAnne

Nikki, I have to say I just love your blog.....you always have me cracking up!!! Your Fall decor looks LOVELY! I have that same cheap glass pumpkin but mine stays filled with m&m's, love me some m&m's not so much love for candy corn. I have heard though to mix candy corn, m&m's and peanuts together that it is YUMMY...might have to try it! Also, here in blogland is where I really noticed the first cloche...now HOOKED on them....I have even made a couple...YIKES!!! Anyway, again your home looks LOVELY!!

Ginny said...

Well, I don't have a cloche either, or a white pumpkin for that matter. I tried to keep up with everyone in blogland, but to no avail. I just do not have the time or the energy to constantly be decorating and painting, and fussing with the house. Really, is it THAT important that you would stress about it? I think not. We do the best we can with what we have and the time to do it.
By the way, your decor is lovely.

Ohh Nikki..

You are too funny! I have been stalking that glass pumpkin jar for a few weeks now at the local WallyWorld...lol. It looks so pretty filled with candy corns..which would last about 20 minutes in this house! The great thing about Fall is that you can decorate with free stuff from the yard....that is the only reason I can say I have decorations..heehee. Thank heavens for buckeyes, leaves, and pinecones!

Nikki dear, I already hold the title of "That Woman" and you can't have it! I'm the one "stuck in the 80s" who likes her ceiling fans and figures her 13-year-old front room couch still has good cushions and isn't worn out yet so why get rid of it even if it does have GASP.....FLOWERS!! I'm a use it up and wear it out kind of gal. Our dishes are bits and pieces too, even my Sunday china only has seven plates!! But hey, I figure when else am I going to use it if not my family, They're worth it, right? The Queen keeps cancelling her dinner appointment at our house so I decided I'm not saving my good stuff for her any more. We even use Christmas towels I buy on clearance ALL YEAR ROUND!!! They do the job and we don't care if there is a cute Santa or snowman on it. Can you top that?!! I posted a glider I bought last year on RMS. I love it and was so proud of it. One comment I got was "who would spend money on that?" ME, that's who! So see I keep hoping my blogging buddies decorating talents will rub off on me but alas, I must have decor repellant on bz nothing is sticking! Have a great day my friend!

Nikki, you sell yourself way too short. Your fall decor is pretty! I especially like the candy corn in the clear pumpkin jar. My mom and I used to have those pumpkin jars, we got them at Dunkin' Donuts years ago (I think they came filled with donut holes? ;)
Anyhoo, I think mine must have broken along the way, because I don't have it anymore..... so I really enjoyed seeing yours.

I went a bought a whole bunch of fake pumpkins at hobby lobby and took them all back...I am just not a big time fall decorator...but I will do a few things soon. Blessings, nancy

I think your fall decor looks great! Especially that kitchen island (your house is beautiful, by the way).
I also got one of those spray paint can trigger handle things, and man, it is a life saver. Mine is just a dollar store cheap-o, not nearly as fancy-schmancy as your mac-daddy one!
