EWWWW this is NOT for public viewing

We've lived in this new home for about 3 1/2 years now. There is a spot upstairs that I always thought would make a great space for a craft room. It is right at the top of the back stairs in a landing area. 3 1/2 years later it had become the "catch all". It was majorly embarrassing and I generally squinted my eyes when I had to walk through there. It looked way less horrific with your eyes mostly closed.

And then a couple days ago my furry companion left me no choice.......

Once I realized the room didn't have a "self cleaning" button like my oven does, I finally broke down and decided to pull it together. I headed to my favorite place....HOME DEPOT...and purchased a 8 foot length of counter top, some metal shelf thingies, and some spray paint. They also had these really cool stainless steal organizers made for your kitchen. They were on MONDO CLEARANCE...my favorite thing...so I scooped em up. Then a stop at Joanne's fabric for some material and trim. Whew shopping is exhausting! But alas, I cannot put this off another day.

Now at this point I would like to add a warning to this post....IF YOU HAVE A SENSITIVE STOMACH DO NOT LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING PICTURES.....THIS IS NOT PRETTY!!!

Here is the before:

Like I said...embarrassing.........yes...people actually do live like that! And I'm ashamed to admit I am one of them!

I'm not finished yet....I still need more bins for the shelf, need to paint the dresser black, and I still want to add some decorative touches to the walls etc. But in one day I think it's come a looong way....

I just used "sticky backed velcro" to hang the skirt...that way I can still easily access the shelves underneath.

Hi Nikki,
I have a room very similiar to this above my garage. I am slowly getting it fixed up.

I need bookcases and a table. I love the way yours is turning out. My before pictures would probably have looked worse than yours! I didn't take any!

Crrumpet is so cute with that bandana on his head! What a tolerant pooch he is. My Sophie would literally never stand still for that.

Oh my, it's a good thing I like the color green because my envy is showing...not just for the way you arranged the room, but that you actually had an EXTRA room...and time (between books) to do crafts...WOW! ;-) Bo

Wow! What a transformation! It looks great in there now. :o) Great idea to buy that counter top!

I LOVE it! I just put a craft table in the sitting area part of my bedroom (just an old banquet table) but I put a pretty paisley tablecloth on it because the top is pretty messed up....LOVE the skirt so much better though! and the hanging organizers? perfect!

I too have one of these spots.(Probably several if I told the truth) It has become a dumping ground for clean laundry. Need a clean shirt? Check the bonus room floor. No one wants to put away laundry so it goes into the bonus room in basketfulls. That is my dirty little secret. I clean it only to find it the same way a week later. I have to come up with a better solution. How I wish I could afford a maid...

Nikki, that's a great little office/craft space. Reminds me of my office nook, about 6x9' & I knew it would be perfect for an office.

I love all your solutions for a neat & organized space!

Nikki, MOST people have at least one room like that. They just won't admit it. I'm pretty sure there is a 12 step program for all of us. Wish my "who got buried in here" looked that good to start with. I've been plowing through my office for a month. I know where everything is but if anyone else had to find anything... it wouldn't be pretty! You've made great progress. Keep it up! Carol

Ha! You call that messy...?!? I could show you messy. Not my place, of course. But, I know people. A certain relative who shall remain nameless. To help her remain anonymous, I can only reveal her nickname: "Mom".

In any event, the 'nearly' finished product is great. Very clever and tidy, too. Well done!

Hi Nikki :)

The room looks great! You really gave me inspiration to do something with the mess behind my desk. Now THAT is scary LOL

Oh and I'm just as weird as you. I could've written that list except for the grasshoppers. For me, it's spiders... yikes!

thanks for coming over to visit me...I so love the song...so many perspectives to it. I think I'm going to play it for my 8th graders! Gosh knows they have "things" to clean up! Your humor rates way up there....& like I told Tracey who just found me & there for I found U....total "props" on the blog, the animal humor is a stitch. Can't comment on cleaning up cuz my hall bathroom is the "I don't have a place for it yet so here is a good place"....thank gosh I have my own bathroom but as for people who visit me...LOL! I will be back to check up on the songs & humor! Mind if I add you to my blog list?

I think I'm going to be sick at my stomach. Is that really as bad as it gets at your house? You would puke if you saw my closet.

Anyway, the new craft area is PERFECT! How nice that you have the extra space. What a cute way to cover the shelves.
